Training Never Takes a Vacation
During our three-week vacation, I was determined to stay active. Rather than worrying about missing workouts, my son and I made it our mission to visit as many martial arts gyms as possible.
One academy that truly stood out was NJ Ronin Jiu Jitsu & Striking Academy in Hackettstown, New Jersey. They didn't just welcome us as guests—they made us feel like family from the moment we walked through the door.
What made this visit even more meaningful was reconnecting with my longtime friend, founder and competition coach Danny. It had been more than 21 years since we'd last seen each other. Life has a way of taking us in different directions, but some friendships have a way of picking up right where they left off.
The video clip you're watching was actually taken during our second visit to NJ Ronin. On our first visit, Lil Man attended one of the junior classes and absolutely loved it. This time, we decided to take a striking class together. I joined in, got a great workout, and we had an incredible time from start to finish.
A huge thank you to Danny and everyone at NJ Ronin for the warm hospitality, outstanding instruction, and positive atmosphere. It's easy to see why this academy has earned such a great reputation.
We'll definitely be back.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned on my fitness journey is that staying active doesn't have to mean sticking to the exact same routine every day. Sometimes the best experiences come from stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something new.
By keeping an open mind and being willing to try anything that's healthy, we met some incredible people, experienced outstanding instruction, and created memories that we'll carry with us for years to come. Instead of stressing about being away from our home gym and martial arts school, we embraced the opportunity to learn, train, and grow in a different environment.
Fitness isn't about perfection. It's about consistency. Sometimes consistency means finding creative ways to stay active, even while you're on vacation.
Thanks for reading, and remember... wherever life takes you, keep moving.
