Old dog, Learning new tricks

Back in the day my best friend and I decided to start studying martial arts. My friend chose to go to a Taekwondo school since it was closer to his house. I rather chose Isshinryu karate because it focused more on close-combat, which is more designed for practical self-defense. Taekwondo was more about high-flying kicks, spinning kicks, long range techniques designed more for Olympic-style competition.

I always liked the Tornado kick. But Isshinryu doesn’t teach the Tornado kick. My best friend who was studying Taekwondo tried to teach me, but I never put enough work in to get it.  The Isshinryu karate was pretty intense so I had my hands full.

Fast forward 43 years. I been at it for about a week now. I’m definitely getting there. I figure another 9500 times, and I will have it down pat. I am living proof that it's never too late! Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thank you for reading.
