Don't Call it a Comeback
It has been 3 years, 4 months, and 21 days since my last post. 1,240 days. Wow, time sure does fly. I am once again in a good place and will attempt to begin posting regularly once more.
So, basically I had to move from the home I was renting. Sometime after my last post I was abruptly notified my lease wouldn’t be renewed. I did not want to downsize to an apartment and renting another house seemed nearly impossible as the rental prices were very high. It was a hectic time to say the least. I ended up buying a house in need of major repairs which took up a majority of my time. This is basically why I stopped posting. The good news is that my choice of living a healthy lifestyle stuck. I will admit that a couple of times over the last three years, I gained back some of the weight I had lost. Once due to a severe shoulder injury that made any exercising impossible. It was so painful that even walking was difficult. Another time was just a rough winter. Not really an excuse, but dealing with a lot of stress and insane weather conditions just made things difficult. But it was only a few pounds each time. I didn’t let it get out of control as I have in the past. I continued eating healthy. But even eating healthy if you don’t burn off those calories, you are going to gain weight. I will definitely be getting into this deeper in future posts.
As of today, at 61 years old I can proudly say I have surpassed my initial weight loss goal from years back. Even though just losing weight was never my only intention. Adopting a healthier lifestyle was. I am still eating very healthy. As a matter of fact I have been intermitted fasting on a 20-4 cycle since January 12, 2026. I weighed in at 73.4 kg. I didn’t start the intermitted fasting to lose any weight. I started it strictly for the health benefits. If you don’t know the benefits if Intermitted Fasting, I did a post about it back in October of 2020. You can read all about it here:
I remained pretty active for the most part over the years of my absence. Keeping up with my now 9 year old son, and working on the house have been workouts believe me. My goal has been to once again convert our garage into a home gym. But the garage is need of some major repairs first. The house of course needed to be repaired before anything and it has been an ongoing project to say the least.
About six months after moving into the new house, my son started attending a mixed martial arts class. He got hooked and he is taking the sport very seriously. This motivated me into once again training regularly in order to be able to help him train. I have a background of some wrestling, boxing and Isshin Ryu Karate. But MMA, is a completely different animal. Training with my son has definitely been a challenge. Though I had some trainings as I mentioned, it had been decades since I practiced any of them seriously. I was doing some Kung Fu a few years ago but nothing I had been doing prepared me for what I am doing now as far as training with my son.
I started hitting the gym semi regularly in order to keep up with my son as he is progressing at an amazing pace. It was proving to not be enough. So on 19-02-26 I officially joined a gym and am now going in every morning. I will more than likely do 5 to 6 days per week. This is in addition to training with my son in the evenings 7 days a week. With that said, I thought it was a great time to get back into sharing my journey.
A quick rerun. I began this journey shortly after turning 55. I was weighing 89 kg. (196 lbs.) standing at just shy of 5’ 6”. Today I am 61 years old weighing in at 68.7 kg. (151.4 lbs.) I believe I was hoping to weigh in around 160 lbs. when I first started out. I am well below that thanks to the healthy diet and MMA training. Again it’s not just about losing weight, it is all about being all around healthier for myself, and for my son. I am no health guru, but at 61 I believe I am in pretty good shape thanks to my commitment to adopting a healthier lifestyle. By sharing my journey I hope to inspire others into joining me. I am living proof that getting fit, even after turning 50 is most definitely possible. Thank you for reading and sharing.
