Chillaxing
As many people do, I used to “relax” by sitting on the couch and watching television. That was until I learned that this type of relaxing is our worst enemy. The lack of movement is one thing but the feeding our minds with junk TV, is just as bad if not worse than consuming piles of junk food. True story.
Unless you are sitting around watching educational television stimulating your brain in a positive way, chances are you’re more than likely doing your mind, body and soul an injustice. Scientists have linked TV viewing to antisocial behavior, lowered verbal IQ and altered brain structure just to mention a few of the many facts that are out there. I have long ago cut down on watching television. When I wish to view something I rather choose to stream a good movie, commercial free.
Nowadays rather than sitting in front of the TV, I relax in the kitchen. A side note here, I do most of my reading while sitting in the kitchen. But cutting up fruit to juice, or prepping to cook a good healthy meal and cooking that meal are all very relaxing. I could go further to say it’s very therapeutic.
As long as your not in there frying up chicken you are doing your body a great deed and you’re also doing your mind and spirit a lot of good. Spending time in the kitchen is just a fantastic way to be in the moment. As they say, there is no better time than the present. If you are not fully present while chopping away on some onions you may learn a painful lesson. I speak from experience here.
Looking up recipes and following recipes are great for the brain. Food, great for the body and combined they are great for the soul. So now when I feel the need to relax instead of plopping down on the couch and turning on the boob tube, I hit the kitchen. It is my sanctuary. In the famous words of Pusha T “If You Know You Know.” If you don’t, give it a shot. Trust me you will not regret it and your mind, body and soul with be forever grateful. Thank you for reading.
