Can I Kick It?
Can I kick it? Yes I can! 11 months ago I struggled to tie my own shoes. Well I still struggle to tie my own shoes do to chronic back pain, but believe me I can get it done. I can now also kick well over my head. It had been many years since I had practiced martial arts. Like many I just got too comfortable. I did from time to time throw a few kicks to see if I still had it at all. I was easily convinced or should I rather say fooled into thinking that yea I still had it.
Whether you are into martial arts or not throwing kicks is great exercise. Throwing kicks develop strength and flexibility. Improves mental agility and stamina. Increases confidence and relieves stress.
You don’t have to be a martial artist to implement kicks into your workouts. Throwing 50 kicks per leg no matter how high you can get your leg up is a workout by itself and it’s a lot of fun. Pretend you’re Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris. Just remember to stretch before and after.
I don’t throw kicks everyday. I do get some in every week though because I enjoy doing them. The front kick was one of my favorites when I did practice martial arts so I of course do them the most now. I also do some roundhouse kicks, side kicks and mule kicks. They work muscles you would never imagine and if you do them rapidly you get some cardio work in as a plus.
After 11 months I am still exploring and experimenting all the while making progress. Eventually I may start doing more regimented workouts who knows but if I do, it has to be fun. For now I am sticking to my plan which is just get into the gym and do something…anything for 30 minutes or more! Come on…kick it with me! Thank you for reading.
