Intermittent Fasting (IF)

As I was nearing the end of my eighth month I took some time to start reading up on intermittent fasting and fasting in general. I had done some fasting when I was younger but I honestly couldn’t remember much about it so I wanted refresh my memory and learn more about it.

One needs to be extra careful when it comes to diet especially when you are dealing with Ménière's disease. It’s important that you try to eat at the same times daily. There have been times I was running late for dinner and as time went on my tinnitus would get louder which triggered stress and of course anxiety would kick in. I really wondered if fasting or intermittent fasting was even possible for me seeing I knew that both have many health benefits.

For those that don’t know what intermittent fasting is, it’s basically an eating pattern. There are many different ways of going about it. The method said to be the easiest is allowing yourself 8 hours per day to eat and then you fast for the remaining 16 hours. This isn’t a diet though in many cases one can lost weight. Losing weight is one of the benefits of intermittent fasting but I was more looking at the health benefits of it.

Intermittent Fasting can reduce Insulin Resistance, lowering your risk of Type 2 Diabetes. It can also  reduce Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in the body.  It is beneficial for Heart Health, induces various cellular repair processes, helps prevent cancer, Alzheimers’s disease, it’s good for the brain and it is said that it may help extend your lifespan to which you can live longer. These are just a few of the benefits. Reading what I have thus far has my attention enough to do more research on it to help me decide if this is something I may want to try.

People will read a news paper, or a gossip magazine maybe a novel but when it comes to their health? They more often times than not leave it up to, well, whatever they’ve read in the newspapers or seen on the evening news where one month eggs are good for you and the following month they aren’t. I was one of those so I can speak from experience. I blindly trusted way to many people including my doctors who I have come to learn know nearly nothing about nutrition.

As of this post I am just doing my homework learning all I can about Intermittent Fasting. Maybe this will inspire others to do the same. I will definitely be posting more about it as I go deeper into it. It is safe to say I will more than likely give a go seeing I almost do it naturally at this point in time. I will leave it with these words I came across in an article I recently read “Intermittent fasting can make things easier, as you don't need to plan, cook or clean up after as many meals as before. For this reason, intermittent fasting is very popular among the life-hacking crowd, as it improves your health while simplifying your life at the same time.” Thank you for reading.
