You Are What You Read

This book was a very heavy read. It was heavy on the head as well as the heart. I actually know a few of the people that were written about in this book personally. I am not going to get into the topic here as this blog is totally about getting fit. For me getting fit was more than just about working out and eating right. I was more looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle across the board which not only meant working out and watching what I eat, but also watching what I fed my brain. I’ve done the whole Netflix series binge thing and yea a couple of those series that I’ve watched left my brain feeling like silly putty. Thanks but no thanks.

I believe junk food and junk TV go hand in hand they are both bad for your health. Toss a few gossip magazines in there and you might as well call it a wrap. I want my brain and my soul to be as strong and fit as my body. Going to the gym but not eating healthy is like sinning all week and going to church on Sunday looking for forgiveness. Going to the gym, eating healthy but remaining dumb as dirt is the same thing if you ask me. I made a commitment to myself and I was sticking to it. When it comes to reading, I take no days off. I don’t care if it’s only one page I do not let a day go by without reading and learning something new.

It is limitless what a person can learn. Why anyone would choose to just stop learning, acting all like they know everything there is to know about everything when in truth they don’t know jack squat is beyond me. Just like going to the gym and eating right you start feeling better physically and just about yourself in general after just a short period of consistency, reading does the same. After a short period of time of reading consistently your brain gets so much sharper. Your memory starts improving, your creativity heightens the list of benefits is long as I’ve shared earlier in my post 15 Benefits of Reading Every Day. I am speaking to you from personal experience.

Though the topic of the book had nothing to do with fitness or nutrition it was mentally healthy. I remember when I was a kid there was a commercial on television that said “a mind is a terrible thing to waste” and that is so true. And just as they say you are what you eat, I believe you are what you read. So if you’re reading nothing but the funnies in the Sunday paper, then the joke is on you. Do yourself a solid and read a good book you won’t regret it trust me. Stay mentally fit, as well as physically and spiritually fit. Thank you for reading.
